Wife of Catawba Play-by-play Announcer Buddy Poole Passes Away on Monday
The Catawba College Athletic program sends out its condolences to play-by-play announcer, Buddy Poole, on the passing of his wife, Helen. She died on today (Monday) at 1 pm after suffering a heart attack one week ago. The family will receive friends at Trinity Wesleyan Church on Mooresville Road in Salisbury on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 6-9 pm. Funeral service will be at the same location on Friday at 1 pm.

Swimming Competes in Tri-Meet at Lenoir-Rhyne
HICKORY, NC -- The Catawba College swim teams competed against Warren Wilson College and Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday afternoon at the Shuford Physical Education Center. The men swept both opponents: 83-8 over Warren Wilson and 72-23 over L-R. The Lady Indians defeated Warren Wilson 68-26, but were edged by L-R 48-47.

Baseball Loses Friend of the Program
The Catawba Baseball family lost a close a friend and long-time supporter of the program with the passing of Pete Needham on Saturday morning. The funeral service will by held on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 11 am in the chapel of the Summerset Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Late Rally Falls Short as Men's Basketball Falls to C-N
SALISBURY, NC – Carson-Newman held off a late Catawba rally as the visiting Eagles claimed a 73-69 win in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. Carson-Newman improves to 12-8 overall and 5-5 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 5-13 and 2-8.

Women's Basketball Tops Carson-Newman to Stand Atop SAC Standings Alone
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba took over sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic Conference with a 53-43 victory over visiting Carson-Newman in women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Catawba Indians win for the 11th time in 12 games to improve to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the SAC. The Lady Eagles fall to 10-8 and 4-6.

Softball Picked Fourth in SAC Preseason Poll
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba was slated fourth in the South Atlantic Conference softball preseason coaches’ poll and had three players on the preseason All-SAC squad. Defending champion Lenoir-Rhyne is a nearly unanimous pick to win the 2012 title, it was announced on Thursday by the league office.
