Football Drops Season Finale at Lenoir-Rhyne
HICKORY, N.C. -- Lenoir-Rhyne took a 56-3 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference football action on Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium. The Bears improve to 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the SAC and will await word on a potential NCAA II postseason berth. The Catawba Indians end their season at 5-4 and 2-6. The game marked the 100th meeting between the long time rivals.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored on its first three possessions and never looked back. Catawba’s lone points came on a 22-yard field goal by Clayton Crile to open the second quarter. The Bears led 42-3 at the half.
Brandon Stewart came off the bench late in the second quarter and threw for 125 yards, completing 10-of-18 passes. Jaden Lockhart had four catches for 85 yards. Jyrea Martin led the ground game with 42 yards on 10 carries. Christian Campbell made a pair of stops for losses on defense and Dorrien Bagley recovered a fumble.
The Bears racked up 567 yards of offense, including 321 on the ground. Dwayne McGee totaled 206 yards and scored twice. Grayson Willingham passed for 246 yards and three scores, while running for a fourth.
