Football Wraps Up First Week of Spring Ball

“All of this week’s practices were high-energy and intense with the addition of our new coaches and players. It feels really good to be back on the field working fundamentals and just being around the guys. Our strength and conditioning phase of our off-season program has allowed us to move right into spring practices with confidence and enthusiasm,” said coach Walker about his team’s first week back.
Several players made initial impressions in the opening week of spring ball with their work ethic and play-making ability. Oronde Whitfield, a defensive tackle from Kinston, North Carolina, showed his ability to get after the quarterback as he made several tackles and QB hurries along with a sack in the first week.
Head coach Walker also pointed out his offensive linemen Kanyon James, Dawson Brown, Cameron Ivy-Young, and Zach Brown for their hard work anchoring the offensive front and working with their new coaching staff.
Kujuan Pryor and Jaden Lockhart made plays on the outside at wide receiver in the first four practices which caught the attention of the coaching staff. But not only this, on the defensive side, CJ Stephen, Joshua Pixley, and Christian Bennett all had interceptions in the defensive backfield during the initial spring practices.
Coach Walker also mentioned Leroy Bracey, Jr., Jaylan Love, and Daniel Parker as having a good first week on the field. Bracey is making the transition from wide receiver to running back, which he played in high school. Love is a defensive back from Douglasville that is “playing well” at his position according to Walker. And Parker is a redshirt freshman running back that “had some flashes in the second practice”.
The football team rolls into week two of their spring practice slate this week with sessions on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. The Indians practice at 4:00 p.m. on most Monday, Wednesday, and Friday’s with morning sessions at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Stay tuned for weekly spring updates from the football team and Coach Walker throughout the next few weeks.
