Catawba Drops Regular Season Finale at #6 North Greenville
The game began with plenty of fireworks as Catawba got five runs in their first at-bat. Henderson Lentz ripped a two-RBI single that brought home Luke Spiva and Dylan Driver. Harris Jackson singled through the left side two batters later to bring home Lentz, and Zack Miller doubled to center which brought home Dylan Wilkinson who reached after being hit by a pitch. Braxton Davis brought in the final run of the inning with a single to the right side to score Miller. CatU held a 5-0 lead.
The Crusaders wasted no time in chipping into Catawba's lead. A leadoff walk turned into a run after the runner was moved over with a ground out followed by a single, and the next two batters reached on a single and a walk to load the bases. Another RBI single gave NGU two runs before a sacrifice fly and yet another base hit brought the score to 5-4 after the first inning.
Both teams were held in check over their next four at-bats until North Greenville erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Crsaiders got the six runs on three hits, three walks, and a pair of Catawba errors. After six, the score favored NGU 10-5.
In the eighth, the Indians were unable to capitalize on three free bases, and they were retired in order in the ninth to end the game at 10-7.
The baseball team will travel to Kodak, Tennessee for the play-in game against Mars Hill on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. inside Smokies Stadium.
