Dorr Named Defensive Player of the Year and First Team Selection; Young Earns Second Team Honor

ROCK HILL, NC -- Senior goalkeeper Aryn Door and junior defender Erin Young made the South Atlantic Conference postseason honors list on Thursday. Dorr became the first-ever Catawba player to be named the SAC Defensive Player of the Year while also being named to the first team list. Erin Young was selected to the second team as voted on by the league's coaches.

Senior goalkeeper Aryn Dorr ended her career with a bang in 2022. The four-year starter ended her career with a stellar senior season that saw her lead Division II in save percentage (.542), rank second in DII in ground balls per game (5.0), third in the country in total saves (212), and she ranks within the top-ten nationally in saves per game (7th) and caused turnovers per game (9th).

Dorr finished this season with 212 saves, the most in a single season in program history. She also had 85 ground balls for an average of five per game which both marks are new program records for the most in a single season. On top of that, she caused 41 turnovers which broke yet another single-season program mark.

The Chesapeake Beach, Maryland product will go down as the most decorated goalkeeper in Catawba College women's lacrosse history. She owns the career record for save percentage at .499 in her four-year career, and she ranks first in program history in both career save percentage (.499) and save average (12.06). Dorr also ranks second all-time in career ground balls (180), second in career caused turnovers (106), second in career saves (555), and fourth in goals allowed average (13.107).

Also named to the All-SAC list was junior defender Erin Young. Young played in 14 games and started 13 of those this season while she had 27 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers for the back end of Catawba's defense. All of which were career highs for the Catonsville, Maryland native after taking on a more expanded role during her junior season. The third-year speedster also helped Catawba to their highest clear percentage since the 2017 season as the Lady Indians were successful on 75.1% of their clear attempts this season, and Young played a crucial role in delivering the ball from the defensive zone into the scoring position.
