Leonard Tabbed USILA Honorable Mention All-American and Second Team All-Region
Leonard added a second all-region selection to his resume after being named a first-team performer in the South Region by USILA last season. For the second year in a row, Leonard was recognized as a top-seven defender in the South Region after only 18 defenders make the list at that position.
On top of that, the USILA also selected the Oak Ridge, North Carolina native to his second career All-American team. Leonard was tabbed an Honorable Mention performer this year after making it to the Second Team a season ago. By making this list, Leonard earned his spot as one of the top-18 defenders in Division II lacrosse.
After being selected to both the All-American and All-Region list, Leonard was also invited to play in the USILA Division I/II Senior All-Star Game on Friday, May 27. Payton was one of just seven student-athletes from the South Atlantic Conference to represent the South team. In total, the South team featured 11 Division I athletes and 18 Division II representatives while the North team had players from DI programs like Notre Dame, Harvard, Army West Point, and the University of Delaware. The South team went on to win the All-Star game by a final of 17-13.
Payton Leonard ended his highly successful career by breaking the program record for caused turnovers with 103, ranks 10th all-time in program history in ground balls with 200, has two All-American honors, made two All-Region lists, and has been named All-Conference three straight seasons with two First Team selections.
