Football Announces 2022 Schedule
The Indians will begin their season by facing cross-town opponent Livingstone College on September 3rd at 6:00 p.m. Catawba has not squared off with the Blue Bears since the 2013 season, and they won that matchup 42-16. Catawba will also be the first team to face the Blue Bears in their newly renovated stadium. Catawba holds a perfect 14-0 record against Livingstone in the all-time series.
In week two, the Indians will travel to Shorter University in Rome, Georgia for a noon kickoff. This will be the first time either team has faced one another as The Hawks began competing in football back in 2005. Shorter finished 3-8 overall and 0-7 in Gulf South Conference play last season.
Catawba will remain on the road in week three as they open conference play at Mars Hill on September 17th at 1:00 p.m. The Catawba Indians fell to the Lions 31-14 last season, but they hold a 32-27 advantage in the all-time series.
In week four, the football team will play their first home game against the Tusculum Pioneers. The home opener will be on September 24th at 4:00 p.m. as it will also be Family Weekend. The Catawba Indians took down the Pioneers, 31-28, last year, and the football program holds a 17-8 record all-time against Tusculum.
Head Coach Curtis Walker’s squad will hit the road again in back-to-back weeks starting off by facing newly joined SAC member, Emory & Henry on October 1st. The Indians will take on the Wasps for the first time since 1977.
On October 8th, Catawba will head down the highway to take on the Wingate Bulldogs in a primetime matchup at 6:00 p.m. The Catawba Indians have fallen to the Bulldogs in the last four matchups between the two teams, but Catawba holds a 20-17 advantage all-time.
In the following week, Catawba will begin their first multi-week homestand when defending SAC Champions, Newberry, comes to Salisbury. Kickoff is set for October 15th at 6:00 p.m. After that matchup, the football team will host the Limestone Saints for Homecoming on October 22nd. The Catawba Indians will play under the lights at 6:00 p.m. for the annual Homecoming game. The Saints struggled with a record of 1-9 last season and finished at the bottom of the SAC.
Catawba’s final road game will be a non-conference showdown with the Barton Bulldogs on October 29th at 2:00 p.m. before they end the season with two more home games.
On November 5th, the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne come to town for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff in a highly touted rivalry showdown. Then, the regular season wraps up on November 12th as Carson-Newman pays a visit to Salisbury on Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day. The regular season finale will begin at 1:00 p.m. inside Shuford Stadium.
