Haverty takes medalist honors at SAC Women's Golf Championships

FORT MILL, SC -- The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears took home the title at the 2004 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship for the second straight year. The three-round event concluded on Friday afternoon at the 5,427-yard, par-72 Fort Mill Golf Club. The Bears turned in a final score of 326-327-328=981 and defeated runner-up Catawba by six strokes. Catawba made a huge comeback in the third round to cut a 13-stroke lead to only six in the final round. The Lady Indians fired a 321 on Friday to finish in second place with a score of 334-332-321=987. Wingate was third (1021) and Tusculum rounded out the scoring (1039). Leading the Lady Indian charge was medalist and tournament MVP, sophomore Paige Haverty (Greenville, NC) and senior Kristen Kyle (Greer, SC), who each had rounds of 76 on Friday. Haverty shot 76-79-76=231 to take home the individual championship. Kyle shot 80-79-76=235 to place second. Joining Haverty and Kyle on the all-tournament team was Lenoir-Rhyne's Emily Allen (Turner, ME) 79-77-80=236, Wingate’s Audrey Morgan (Midland, NC) 75-84-80=239 and Lenoir-Rhyne's Carlie Gordon (Manchester, MD) 81-81-80=242.
