Samples named SAC Offensive Player of Week

ROCK HILL, SC – The South Atlantic Conference has announced its initial Football Players of the Week for the 2004 season. Earning honors for the week ending on August 28 are Catawba quarterback Luke Samples, Tusculum linebacker John Lindsey and Tusculum defensive back Ra’Shun Judge. Samples, a 6-3, 235, senior from Elkin, NC, threw for 305 yards and three scores as the 17th-ranked Indians topped Fayetteville State 49-21. The former East Wilkes High School standout completed 18-of-26 passes and went over 7,000 passing yards in his career. Samples also became the school’s all-time leader in touchdown passes with 56 as he entered the season tied for the old mark of 53. Lindsey, a 6-2, 215, freshman from Grenville, SC, had an interception and returned a fumble for a score as 14th-ranked Tusculum defeated Concord 46-18. The former Greenville High School product made two tackles, both for losses. His capped the TC win with the eight-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Judge (Hueytown,AL/Hueytown HS), a 5-11, 190, senior, helped the Pioneers to its season-opening 46-18 win at Concord by blocking a school record four kicks. He blocked all three Concord point after tries with two being returned for defense PAT’s. Judge added a blocked punt and broke up a pair of passes. He had four tackles with one for a loss. The SAC Players of the Week are determined by a vote of the eight sports information directors of the conference schools. #####
