Football rolls to 57-10 win over Livingstone
SALISBURY, NC – Catawba earned its fourth straight Mayor’s Cup Trophy with a 57-10 win over host Livingstone in football action on Saturday night at Alumni Memorial Stadium. The Indians, ranked 15th in the AFCA NCAA II Football poll, improves to 2-0, while Livingstone falls to 0-2. Catawba scored touchdowns on its first five drives to grab a 36-3 lead at the half. Mario Crowe (Charlotte, NC) opened the scoring with 12:05 remaining in the opening quarter on a 46-yard run, the first of his three touchdowns on the day. After a safety, Corey Ready (Aiken, SC) scored on a 15-yard pass from Luke Samples (Elkin, NC) for a 16-0 edge at the 9:35 mark of the opening quarter. Catawba found the end zone three times in the second quarter, Rodney Wallace (Bamberg, SC) scored on a 14-yard run, Crowe dove in from a yard out and Ready caught a 25-yard strike from Samples for the halftime margin. Crowe would see the ball just one more time and dashed 66 yards for a score to open the second half. The junior accounted for 115 yards on the ground with three scores on just four carries. Wallace completed his day on the next drive, scoring from a yard and ending the day with a team-leading 124 yards on the ground. Livingstone scored its lone touchdown with 1:12 left in the third quarter on a seven-yard run by Wayne Mann (Lithonia, GA). The Blue Bears were held to just 118 total yards and had minus-15 on the ground. David Melton (Chesterfield, SC) completed 12-of-19 passes for 11 yards before being relieved by Mann. Catawba totaled 452 yards of offense with 331 coming on the ground as the Indians did not attempt a pass in the final half. Samples threw for 121 yards on 11-of-14 passing with two scores in the opening half. Ready had six catches for 78 yards. #####RELATED LINKS
