Men's Soccer records shutout with 2-0 win at LR

HICKORY, NC – Catawba got a pair of second half goals and shutout host Lenoir-Rhyne 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Bears Field. The Indians improve to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the SAC, while Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 6-4-1 and 0-3. A tight first half ended scoreless before Indians finally broke threw with an own goal at 75:55 when a Bear defender accidentally knocked a shot by Zay-Zay Gilewala (Monrovia, LIBERIA) into the net. Catawba gave itself some breathing room in the 80th minute thanks again to Gilewala, who drilled a 25-foot shot into the upper right corner of the net, past the out-stretched hands of Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper Jonathan Sandlin (The Rock, GA) for the score. Sandlin would finish with six saves while Catawba's Dan Fitzgerald (Seaford, DE) earned the shutout in goal. The Indians also held a 14-6 shot advantage for the contest.
