(4/24/06) Thomas named SAC Baseball Tournament MVP ROCK HILL, SC -- Sophomore outfielder David Thomas (Winston-Salem,NC/Ledford) was named the Most Valuable Player for the 2006 Food Lion SAC Baseball Tournament, after helping to lead Catawba to the tournament title Sunday in Greeneville, TN. The all-tournament team was announced Monday by the league office.
Thomas went 10-for-18 for a .556 batting average, with two home runs, three runs batted in and nine runs scored. He also had a pair of stolen bases.
Thomas was one of four Indians named to the All-Tournament Team. Other Catawba team members include Matt Smith, Mark Smith and Jimbo Davis.
Runner-up Mars Hill placed five on the All-Tournament Team. Charlie Harrison, John Quail, Matt Russell, Matt Carter and Nathan Fritz were all selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Tusculum and Carson-Newman each placed a pair on the All-Tournament Team. Josh Wolff and Skip Talarek represent the Pioneers, while Langdon Pott and Derrick Calkin represent the Eagles. Wingate’s Brent Simpson rounds out the All-Tournament Team.
