Men's Soccer falls on last minute goal
SALISBURY, NC -- UNC-Pembroke got a goal from Andrew Brown (Charlotte, NC) in the final minute to lift the visiting Braves to a 3-2 win over Catawba in men’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Frock Field.
It marked Brown’s second goal to bring the Braves back from a 2-1 deficit and improved UNCP to 2-3-1. Catawba falls to 2-2.Brown drove home a rebound after two previous shots had been saved, one by goalkeeper Will McElheny (Norwood, NC) and the second by a Tribe defender, before Brown’s attempt was deemed to have crossed the line before being cleared away by another Catawba defender with just 57 seconds remaining.
After a scoreless first half, UNCP took the lead when Brown played a pass toward Thomas Schwer (Pfaffenhofen, GERMANY). Schwer and Catawba defender Garth McCormack (Charlotte, NC) slid for the ball, but was directed into the goal by the Tribe defender in the 51st minute. Catawba stormed right back three minutes later as Nathan Zuzga (Troy, MI) scored off a feed from Ryan Villiard (Holiday, FL).
Catawba would take the lead a minute later when Andrew Landry (Oshawa, Ontario, CANADA) raced onto a ball and chipped a shot past Brave keeper Richard Sallin (Richlands, NC). Brown would then get the tying goal in the 58th minute.
