Men's Soccer knocked out of SAC Tournament on 2-0 loss to Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- Omar Cooke and Dario Carrasco scored first-half goals to lead top-seed and second-ranked Carson-Newman to a 2-0 win over Catawba in a semifinal match of the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament held on Friday afternoon at McCown Field.  The Eagles improve to 14-0-2 and advance to Sunday’s final.  The Catawba Indians fall to 11-8 and will await word on a potential NCAA Tournament bid as the Tribe entered the week fifth, behind Presbyterian, with four teams qualifying.
Carson-Newman overcame soggy conditions to take an early lead.  Cooke fired a loose ball past Indian goalie Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA) for a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the match.   Two minutes before the half, the Eagles drew a penalty kick and Carrasco converted for a two-goal advantage.

Tyler Baldock earned the win in goal to post his 10th shutout of the season.  Held had four saves in goal for the Catawba.  The Eagles held a 14-8 edge in shots.
