Higgins scores 18 in Women's Basketball exhibition loss to UNCG

GREENSBORO, NC – Catawba fell to UNC-Greensboro 94-55 in a women’s basketball exhibition game on Friday night at Fleming Gym. Sophomore Brittany Higgins (Tacoma Park, MD) led Catawba with 18 points, while senior Tamekia Foster (Chesapeake, VA) pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Spartans, one of the favorites to win the Southern Conference, jumped out to an 11-0 lead, but Catawba scored three straight baskets to trim the margin to 11-6. The Lady Indians kept the margin to around seven points until the final five minutes of the half. UNCG hit consecutive three-pointers to go up 34-21 with 3:52 left and extended the lead to 14 by the break.

UNC-Greensboro took advantage of turnovers and used its speed to surge ahead 54-32 in the opening four minutes of the final half. The Spartan lead reached 30 with 7:55 to go.

Catawba shot 37% for the game and saw UNCG convert 25 turnovers into 35 points. The Spartans also held a commanding 51-28 edge on the glass. SoCon Player of the Year Candidate, Kristen Boone, led the Spartans with 17 points, nine assists and five steals.
