Men's Soccer falls twice at tournament

BANNER ELK, NC -- The Catawba College men's soccer team dropped both matches over the weekend at the Lees-McRae/Holiday Inn Shootout at Tate Field. On Saturday, the Tribe fell 4-0 to #14 Clayton State, then lost a 3-2 decision to host Lees-McRae on Sunday. The losses leave Catawba with a 2-3 record. The Tribe recorded just one shot in its loss to nationally-ranked Clayton State. The Lakers scored twice in each half, the first just nine minutes into the game by Barry Casebeer and a second by David Dowling in the 19th minute. David Durham (Oak Ridge, TN) had five saves in goal for the Tribe. On Sunday, Catawba lost a tough decision to Lees-McRae as Kevin Proctor converted a penalty kick with just 55 seconds remaining to break a 2-2 tie. Catawba had battled back from a 2-0 deficit on a pair of goals by Jake Pace (Salisbury, NC). Pace scored the first in the 82nd minute on an assist from Brennan Regner (Mebane, NC). He added another just four minutes later from a Jeff Shea (Ft. Langley, BC, CANADA) assist. Lees-McRae had took the lead in the 12th minute and went up 2-0 in the second half on a penalty kick by Khano Smith. #######
