Villiard Scores Twice, but Men's Soccer Drops Home Opener

SALISBURY, NC -- Wheeling Jesuit overcame an early 2-0 deficit, getting four goals from Kerdyn Moe (Arouca, TRINIDAD), to defeat host Catawba 6-2 in men’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Frock Field.  The Cardinals improve to 3-0, while the Catawba Indians fall to 1-2.

Senior Ryan Villiard (Holiday, FL/Mitchell HS) scored twice to put Catawba on top early.  Senior Sam Ketner (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) assisted on both goals, the first in the 13th minute and the second at the 21:16 mark.

Moe put WJU on the board a minute after Villiard’s second goal, while the Cardinals drew even on an own goal in the 31st minute.  Moe added his second goal five minutes later as Wheeling Jesuit grabbed a 3-2 lead at the half.

Moe extended the lead to 4-2 on his hat trick goal 10 minutes into the final half.  He added a fourth tally in the 77th minute.  Nic Blazer (Pittsburgh, PA) got the final score just over a minute after Moe’s final goal.

Brandon Regan (Wheeling, WV) had seven saves in goal for WJU.  Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) and Ross Willard (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) shared time in net for the Tribe and each allowed three goals.  Held made five saves, with Willard turning back two shots.
