Ketner's Late Goal Helps Men's Soccer Snap Three-Game Skid

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba’s Sam Ketner (Salisbury, NC/E. Rowan HS) snapped a 2-2 tie with a 77th-minute goal and the Indians went on to top visiting Chowan 4-2 in men’s soccer action on Wednesday night at Frock Field.  The Catawba Indians improve to 2-4, while the Hawks fall to 1-7.

Catawba jumped on top quickly as senior Nathan Brown (Huntersville, NC/Hopewell HS) netted his first goal of the season in the 10th minute.  The score held up through the opening half, but the Hawks equalized just before the hour as Jonathan Potter (Winston-Salem, NC) scored off an assist from Isidro Lopez (Graham, NC).

Troy Brown (Burlington, NC/Williams HS) reclaimed the lead for Catawba in the 66th minute, but Ali Abdi (Greenville, NC) converted a penalty kick at the 71:49 mark to level the match at 2-2.  Ketner would put the Tribe back on top and Garth McCormack (Charlotte, NC/C. Cabarrus HS) added an insurance goal two minutes later.

Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) recorded one save in goal for Catawba, who held a 28-5 edge in shots.  Josh Cenci (Chesapeake, VA) recorded a dozen saves for the Hawks.
