Men's Soccer Falls Short in Late Rally at Wingate

WINGATE, NC -- Wingate picked up a 4-2 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday night at the WU Soccer Complex.  The Bulldogs, ranked 19th in NCAA II, improve to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in the SAC.  The Catawba Indians fall to 5-5 and 1-1.

Wingate made it 3-0 in the 71st minute before Catawba made it interesting with two goals by Ryan Villiard (Holiday, FL/Mitchell HS) in a three minute span.  The senior answered the third Wingate goal in the 73rd minute on a crossing pass from Kirby Freeland (Charlotte, NC/Providence HS).  Villiard added a penalty kick in the 76th minute.

Bulldog Junior Nyemb (Douala, Cameroon) gave the hosts much-needed insurance in the 82nd minute, as he took a perfectly placed pass from Green and scored on a break-away.  Wingate outshot Catawba 24-8. Willard recorded 11 saves.
