Men's Soccer Ends Season With Loss To Tusculum
GREENEVILLE, TN -- Top-seeded Tusculum advanced to the semifinal round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament with a 4-1 win over visiting Catawba on Wednesday night at Pioneer Field. The Pioneers improve to 16-2-1 and advance to face the fourth-seeded Lincoln Memorial on Friday evening in the tournament semifinals in Rock Hill, SC. The Catawba Indians conclude their season at 4-14.
Catawba struck first in the opening minutes of the match to grab an early edge. Freshman Tim Finotti (Hendersonville, NC/W. Henderson HS) took a cross from Chad Villard (Holiday, FL/Mitchell HS) and one-touched it past the TC keeper for his second goal of the season in just the third minute.
It didn’t take long for the Pioneers to strike back. Bruno Conceicão equalized in the sixth minute, and Richard Schofield put Tusculum on top five minutes later. Tusculum added two more goals by Anteneh Lemma before the half for a 4-1 edge at the break.
Tusculum outshot the Catawba Indians 19-8 in the match. Catawba keeper Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) had seven saves over the first 60 minutes, while Ross Willard (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) had one save over the final 30 minutes. Lance Moore had three saves for the Pioneers.
