(12/14/08) Women's Basketball Grabs Win at Columbia Union TAKOMA PARK, MD -- Catawba snapped a three-game losing streak, posting a 73-42 win over host Columbia Union in women’s basketball action on Sunday afternoon at The Pit. The Catawba Indians improve to 5-4, while the Pioneers fall to 0-11. Catawba used a 14-2 run over the final six minutes of the first half to break open a tight game. Jolysa Connor (Charlotte, NC/Waddell HS) and Brooke Whitley (New London, NC/N. Stanly HS) scored the first 10 points of the run to give Catawba a 30-18 edge. The Lady Indians took a 34-19 lead to the break. The Pioneers got within 12 early in the second half, but Catawba began to pull away, going on top 50-30 on a layup by Cameron Clark (Albemarle, NC/N. Stanly HS) with just under nine minutes left. An 11-0 run late in the game pushed the lead to 71-40 with 1:48 to go. All 10 Catawba players took part in the scoring with freshman Maggie Sullivan (Fort Mill, SC/Charlotte Christian HS) leading the way with 15 points. Whitley added 11 points and six rebounds, while Pamela Muldrow (Jacksonville, NC/Southwest HS) and Conner each tallied 10 points. Erin Duffy led CU with 14 points and Willona Johnson posted a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Catawba shot 41% to just 29% for the Pioneers.
