(10/24/09) Santoli Gives Field Hockey OT Win In Season Finale SALISBURY, NC -- Sophomore Sam Santoli (Nesconset, NY/Smithtown West HS) notched her second straight overtime game-winner as Catawba capped its 2009 season with a 1-0 win over visiting Limestone in field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians end their season at 5-9, while the Saints fall to 1-13. Limestone held a 13-8 edge in shots with Catawba having just two shots after the opening half. Lady Indian goalie Bronwen Gainsford (Lewisville, NC/W. Forsyth HS) made nine saves in posting her second shutout of the season. Julie Medeiros (Derry, NH) and Kelsi Zimmerman (Odenton, MD) shared the goalie duties for the Saints. Zimmerman had one save in the second half. Medeiros played the first half and overtime and made four saves. The winning goal came on a breakaway as Santoli outraced Saint defenders to the ball then made a move on Medeiros and scored into an empty goal. The tally came 1:39 into extra time. It marked the sixth overtime of the season for Catawba, which won the last three to finish 3-3 in those contests.
