Landry's Hat Trick Sends Men's Soccer Into SAC Tournament

BREVARD, NC -- Senior Andrew Landry (Oshawa, Ontario, CANADA/Donevan Institute) scoredall three goals as Catawba claimed a 3-0 win over host Brevard in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the Brevard Soccer Field.  The win clinches a spot for the Catawba Indians in the upcoming league tournament as they improve to 5-11-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the SAC, snapping seven-match losing streak.  Brevard ends its season at 1-18 and 0-8.

Landry gave Catawba the only goal it would need in the 15th minute.  He took a through ball from Alain Lengliz (Blackpool, ENGLAND/Blackpool College) and chipped a shot over Brevard keeper Jack Shaw.  The score would stay that way through the half as each team fired 11 shots.

Brevard would actually finish with a 24-20 edge in shots, but Catawba keeper Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) recorded a dozen saves in posting the shutout.  It is his second of the season.

Landry gave the Tribe an insurance goal just past the hour mark.  Shaw made two saves, but after the second shot by Valentin Nava (Salisbury, NC/Carson HS) Landry fired home the goal at the 60:14 mark.  The senior added a final tally to complete the hat trick in the 74th minute to imrprove his season total to 11 on the year.
