Bunn Named SAC Football Offensive Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- After his record-setting game at Wingate on Saturday, Catawba senior wide receiver, Brandon Bunn (Virginia Beach, VA/Fork Union/VMI), has been named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Players of the Week. The league announced the winners for the week ending October 3, 2010 on Monday. Mars Hill linebacker Josh Baker was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Wingate University defensive back Timmy Rogers was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Bunn set school marks for touchdown catches in a game (4) and career (27) as well as receiving yards in a game (247) during the Indians’ 35-28 win over Wingate. The four scoring catches also tied the league mark which was last accomplished in 2003. Bunn started his big afternoon with a 74-yard touchdown catch on the game's first play. He also caught a 52-yard deflected pass on the final play of the first half that gave Catawba a 28-7 lead at the half. The 42-year-old receiving yardage mark fell on a 46-yard catch, the last of his 10 on the afternoon, on third down with just over two minutes to play.
Baker led Mars Hill to a 45-39 win over No. 13 Tusculum Saturday. Baker recovered a fumble that led to a score then in the fourth quarter he returned an interception 44 yards to give Mars Hill a 45-26 advantage with 10:04 left in regulation that sealed the win. For the day he recorded seven tackles, a tackle-for-loss, a fumble recovery and an interception.
Rogers helped the Bulldogs rally late in the loss to Catawba. He returned a blocked punt for a score late in the third quarter and set up another touchdown on his own blocked punt with 6:50 to play. On the afternoon, Rogers had 99 all-purpose yards and contributed six tackles (three solo, three assists) to Wingate's defensive efforts.
