Men's Soccer falls twice at Nova Tournament

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL – Catawba College dropped both its matches at the Holiday Inn Invitaitonal men’s soccer tournament at hosted by Nova Southeaster over the weekend. The Indians dropped a wild 6-3 match to Nova on Friday and fell 5-0 to #2-ranked Lynn on Sunday. The Indians now stand 3-2 on the year. The Indians opened the scoring against Nova on a goal by Brennan Regner (Mebane, NC) in the 27th minute. The Tribe had a later goal called back for offsides, then Nova evened the match with just nine seconds left in the half. Nova took the lead in the 60th minute on the first of three goals by Adam Ludden, although the go-ahead goal was questionable for being offside. The Indians then received the first of three red cards, and Nova scored twice with a man advatage. Down two men, Catawba cut the deficit to 4-2 on Regner’s second goal and pulled within 5-3 on a tally by Kyle McAleese (Stafford, VA) in the 85th minute on a penalty kick. The shots were even at 20 each and Nova was actually whistled for two more fouls than Catawba 15-13, but the Tribe received seven cards, three red, to four for Nova, one red. Catawba faired well for a half against second-ranked Lynn, trailing only 1-0 at the break and nearly heading to the locker room even after a rocket by Tyler Kulp (Ephrata, PA) hit the crossbar. Lynn took a 2-0 advantage just two minutes into the second half and went up 3-0 in the 56th minute. Lynn added two goals in the final four minutes. #####
