Cooper's OT Goal Helps Men's Soccer Top Brevard
BREVARD, NC -- Keith Cooper scored with a little over a minute left in the second overtime period to lift Catawba to a 2-1 South Atlantic Conference victory against Brevard Saturday evening at the Brevard College Soccer Field. The Indians better their record to 8-8-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the SAC, as the Tornados fall to 3-13-1 and 1-8.
In the 109th minute and encroaching darkness, Matt Stewart (Beaufort, SC/Beaufort HS) crossed a ball to Keith Cooper (Hickory, NC/St. Stephens HS) just inside the 18-yard box, which he smashed into the Brevard net far post for the game-winner.
The Indians broke a scoreless draw in the 62nd minute when Domhnall Minogue (Greystones, IRELAND/Presentation HS) curved a 25-yard free kick past a wall of Tornados to put Catawba up 1-0.
Brevard answered in the last minute of regulation when Patrick Urmson knocked in a loose ball under Catawba goalkeeper Evan Harvey (Apex, NC/Apex HS) to send the match into overtime.
The Indians are the #6 seed in the SAC Tournament and travel to #3 seed Mars Hill (11-4-1, 6-2-1) on Wednesday, Nov. 1 for a 7:30 pm start. The winner moves on to play the victor of the Lenoir-Rhyne/Tusculum quarterfinal in a semifinal on Friday, Nov. 4 in Rock Hill, SC.
