Huneycutt Earns SAC Softball Pitcher of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba’s Emily Huneycutt (Locust, NC/W. Stanly HS) has been named the South Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, while Lincoln Memorial outfielder Meghan LaFevor has been named South Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week. It was the initial softball awards for the season and was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Huneycutt picked up where she left off in 2011 as she earned two victories in the circle for the Lady Indians to start the season. In her first game against Georgia Southwestern, the sophomore ended the day with a complete game shutout, striking out one.
She followed that performance with a victory over Georgia College after entering the game in relief. For the weekend, Huneycutt struck out three batters and walked just three.
After returning from an ACL injury suffered last season, LaFevor opened up her 2012 campaign with a home run and a scoreless inning pitched, as her performance lead LMU to its first win of the season against Milligan. In the second game of the doubleheader against the Buffaloes, LaFevor added two more hits – including a double – and an RBI.
LaFevor also got the start in the second game for the Railsplitters and tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts.
