Catawba Men Set School Record on First Night of BMC Championships

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Catawba College swim teams both competed in the first day of the Bluegrass Mountain Championships Wednesday night at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center hosted by Wingate University. 

The Catawba Men had an impressive night, setting a school record in the 800 free relay. Theo Zatterstrom (Stockholm, SWEDEN/Fryshuset HS), Magnus Lundgren (Alvsjo, SWEDEN/Varmdo HS), Toomas Goutt (Saint Witz, FRANCE/Lycee Leonard de Vinci HS) and Mikael Karlsson (Norsborg, SWEDEN/Tullinge Gymnasium HS) teamed up to finish 4th with a time of 6:48.90.  The impressive finish the four men for an NCAA “B” cut.

Caroline Bostian (Pfafftown, NC/Reagan HS) had a strong night as well, setting a personal best in the 1000 free.  She placed 9th with a mark of 11:07.86, knocking 23 seconds off her previous best time in the event.

The women’s 800 free relay squad of Leah Constan-Tatos (Johannesburg, SOUTH AFRICA/St. Andrews), Caroline Bostian (Pfafftown, NC/Reagan HS), Lindsay Yarborough (Lexington, NC/C. Davidson HS) and Katia Kruglov (Karmiel, ISRAEL/Ort Kramim HS) placed 6th with a time of 8:02.04, also dropping a bit of time from their personal best this year.

The Indians will continue competition through Saturday at the MAC.
