Softball Limited to Four Hits in Dropping a Pair to USC Aiken

SALISBURY, NC -- USC Aiken senior Kayla Denham (Palatka, FL) homered in each game as the Pacers swept a softball doubleheader from host Catawba on Saturday afternoon at Whitley Field.  The Pacers improve to 2-0, winning by the scores of 4-1 and 10-1.  The Catawba Indians fall to 8-4.

India Kornegay (Eufaula, AL) picked up wins in both games for USCA.  She allowed just three hits over 10 frames and posted 19 strikeouts.  Denham went 4-fo-7 in the two games with six RBI.

Kornegay limited Catawba to just two hits in the winning the opener.  Alli Justice (Bishopville, MD/Decatur HS) had a bunt single for the Lady Indians in the second and Tara Gibbs (Waynesville, NC/Tuscola HS) provided Catawba with its only run in the sixth on a solo homer.

USCA got solo home runs from Denham in the first and Cortney Sadler (Bradenton, FL) in the third to grab a 2-0 lead.  The Pacers stretched the lead in the sixth on a RBI double from Denham and a run-scoring single by Brittney Williamson (Lexington, SC).

Kornegay fanned 14 and walked three in the win.  Denham and Hillary Stewart (Blythewood, SC) each had two hits.

Denham struck again early in game, hitting a two-run homer in the first to stake the Pacers to an early lead.  Catawba the deficit in half in the second on a home run by Emily D. Huneycutt (Oakboro, NC/W. Stanly HS).  Aiken got that run back in the fifth on a RBI double by Kaitlyn White (Columbia, SC) then exploded for seven runs in the sixth.

Kornegay entered in relief for the Pacers in the fourth and grabbed her second win of the day.  She allowed just one hit, a triple in the sixth to Mollie Kovalcin (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe HS), over her three innings.  She walked none and fanned five.

Denham had four RBI in the win.  Sadler and Whitney Clary (Newberry, SC) joined Denham with a pair of hits in the win.
