Lady Indians Drop Heartbreaker to Falcons

MISENHEIMER, NC -- The Catawba Women’s Tennis team dropped a hard-fought match to Highway 52 rival Pfeiffer 5-4 Tuesday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center.  The Lady Falcons improve to 3-3, while the Lady Indians fall to 5-3.

Pfeiffer picked up two of the three doubles points to take an early 1-2 lead. Olivia Myers (Lexington, NC/W.Davidson) and Candace Hall (Denver, NC/E. Lincoln) picked up an easy win at #3 doubles, defeating Kaleigh Featherstone and Bailey Greene 8-1. 

The Lady Indians needed four singles wins to clinch the match. Maggie McKee (Mt. Airy, NC/Mt. Airy), Hall and Myers all won in singles for Catawba.  McKee lost the first set of her match 6-1, but rallied to win the next 13 games and took the next two sets 7-5, 6-0.

The final match came down to Steffi Cook (Alpharetta, GA/Milton) at #4 singles.  After a long, three and a half hour battle, she fell in three sets to the Lady Falcon’s Briana Oliver 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Catawba begins South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday at the Johnson Tennis Center against the Anderson Trojans at 2:00 p.m.
