Mills Named to All-Independent Women's Lacrosse Team

NEWBERRY, SC -- Catawba sophomore Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) has been selected to the 2012 All-Independent Women’s Lacrosse team.  Mills was named to the second team.  The All-Independent teams comprise those schools who fielded women’s lacrosse teams that are not associated with a conference and were voted on by the coaches from those schools that elected to participate.   Schools participating were Catawba, Florida Southern, Grand Valley State, Lenoir-Rhyne, Newberry, Shepherd, Tiffin and Urbana.

Mills led Catawba in its inaugural women’s lacrosse season with a team-leading 31 goals and six assists.  She also won 60 draw controls and collected 38 ground balls.  Mills tallied eight goals with three assists in helping the Lady Indians to their first-ever win, an 18-17 triumph over Lees-McRae on March 13.

Tiffin junior Alexandria Quast was named the Division II Independent Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year, headlining a list of award winners that was announced on Wednesday.  The Lockport, NY, native finished the regular season as the nation’s leader in goals scored with 82 and goals per game with 4.82.  Quast also finished second in the country in ground balls per game with 4.18 and second in total points with 104.

The No. 14-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins were honored with two individual award winners, as Parkton, MD, native Megan Asper earned Freshman of the Year honors.  Mocs head coach Kara Reber was honored by her fellow coaches with Coach of the Year accolades.
