Arrowood's Goal Gives Women's Soccer First League Win

SALISBURY, NC -- Sophomore Taylor Arrowood (Matthews, NC/Weddington HS) scored the lone goal as host Catawba topped Newberry 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field.  The Catawba Indians improve to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the SAC, while the Wolves fall to 4-3-1 and 1-1.

Arrowood’s goal came after nearly 80 minutes of scoreless action, but the sophomore was able to score off an assist from freshman Mary Kirkman (Burlington, NC/Williams HS) at the 79:14 mark.  The defensive battle saw just six shots on goal by the teams combined with Catawba having four of those.

Newberry had the lone shot on goal in the first half, but it was turned away by Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS), one of her two saves on the day.  The freshman notched her first solo shutout.  Morgan Cox (Perth, AUSTRALIA) stopped three shots in goal for Newberry.

Catawba remains at home and will host Chowan on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
