Whitmer and Raye Named SAC Volleyball Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, SC -- After leading Catawba to a 2-1 week, which included a pair of league wins, Catabwa Indian seniors Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co. HS) and Jordan Raye (Boonville, NC/Starmount HS) have been selected as the SAC volleyball weekly award winners.  It was announced by the league office on Monday.

Whitmer averaged 4.23 kills and 2.69 digs per set in her three matches to earn SAC Player of the Week honors.  The outside hitter tallied 20 kills, 18 digs and a service ace in Catawba’s 3-1 win over Lenoir-Rhyne.  She then followed with 23 kills and nine digs in another SAC win at Brevard. 

Raye, meanwhile, averaged 9.31 assists, 2.54 digs and 1.62 kills last week to earn the league’s Specialist of the Week award.  Raye had double-doubles in all three of her matches, including a 46-assist, 10-dig, seven-kill performance vs. Lenoir-Rhyne.  The setter also added three service aces on the week.
