Women's Golf Place Sixth at Rendleman Invitational

 SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba finished sixth among 16 schools at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational women's golf tournament which concluded on Tuesday at the 5,998-yar, par-72 Country Club of Salisbury.  Newberry claimed the team title with a two-day score of 598, topping runner-up Tusculum by 17 shots.  Catawba shot a total of 644.

Newberry's Barbara Castro took medalist honors by two shots over Emee Herbert, of Tusculum.  Castro totaled 142, which included a tournament low three-under-par 69 on Monday.  Herbert had two rounds of even par 72.  Newberry's Julia Daneshfar was third on 150.

Catawba was led by Leslie Long (East Bend, NC/Forbush HS) with an 11th-place finish.  She equaled her career-low round of 76 on Monday.  Four Catawba golfers shot their career lows during the tournament.  Tailar Murphy (Greensboro, NC/N. Guiford HS) opened with a 79 and finished in 33rd place, tied with teammate Jana Burkhardt (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby South), who shot her low of 81 in the final round.  Playing as individuals, Carmen Grubb (Mocksville, NC/Davie Co. HS) and Crystal Almond (Albemarle, NC/N. Stanly HS) shot career lows in the final round.  Grubb with an 82 and Almond a 93.
