Scheich Tallies School Record Nine Goals to Power Men's Lacrosse Over Wingate
SALISBURY, NC -- Junior John Scheich (Waxhaw, NC/Weddington HS) set a school record with nine goals to lead host Catawba to a 21-12 win over Wingate in Deep South Conference men's lacrosse action on Friday night at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians improve to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the DSC, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-12 and 1-6.
Wingate led 6-5 at the half and trailed only 9-8 late in the third quarter when Catawba took control. Matt Symes (Coquitlam, BC, CANADA/Centennial HS) scored a man-up goal for the Indians at the 5:33 mark of the quarter that started a barrage of six Catawba goals in a just over a four minute span. The Indians had five of the first six goals to start the final quarter to make the score 20-10. Scheich broke the record with this ninth tally to make it 19-10 with 7:26 remaining. It bested the old mark of eight goals which was held by Phil Hemmeler who reached that number twice, once in 1999 and again in 2000.

Scheich put Catawba on top for good at 8-7 with 10:53 to go in the third quarter, the first of his six second-half tallies.

The Indians dominated the shot total, out firing the Bulldogs 54-37, including a 21-7 edge in the third quarter when Catawba out-scored Wingate 10-3.
