Chowan Unable to Hold Off Catawba Attacks, Indians win 12-0
SALISBURY, NC – The Catawba College men’s soccer team dominated the Chowan University Hawks 12-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Chowan Soccer Complex. With the win the Indians are 4-2-1 on the season. Chowan falls to 0-7.
Catawba jumped out front just under three minutes into the game Kenny Bonilla (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS) scored the goal helped by Corey Faughnan (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) and Ian Orr (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS). Catawba would continue to score six more in the first half.
In the second have Catawba continued to roll scoring five more goals. Bonilla, Orr, Matt Wilkinson (Leeds, ENGLAND/Sherburn HS) and Domhnall Minogue(Greystones, IRELAND/Presentation) each scored two goals for the Indians on the day. Faughnan, Kevin Scott (Charlotte, NC/Hickory Grove Christian), Michael Waller (Mission, TX/Trinity-Pawling) and Declan Stimson (Adelaide, AUSTRALIA/Trinity College) would add in a goal of their own.
Catawba turned to Frankie Cardelle (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS/NC Central) to be in goal to start the day. Cardelle recorded three saves in the game. Evan Harvey (Apex, NC/Apex) spent the first two minutes of the second half in goal before receiving a red card that brought Cardelle back onto the field.
Chowan’s goalkeeper Jax Eddleman was in net all game facing 27 shots, 19 being on target. Eddleman recorded seven saves despite giving up the 12 goals.
Catawba returns to play on Saturday as the Indians travel to South Atlantic Conference opponent, Coker. Game time is set for 4 pm.
