Sieracki Makes It Two In A Row For Men's Lacrosse In Overtime
WINTER PARK, FL -- For the straight game, Catawba used overtime to knock off a former Deep South Conference member in men's lacrosse action. Senior Trevor Sieracki (Austin, TX/Anderson HS) did the honors Wednesday night against Rollins, scoring with 1:20 to go in overtime as the Catawba Indians posted a 9-8 win at Barker Family Stadium. The Indians up their record to 4-3, while the Tars fall to 3-3.
Monday against Florida Tech, the Indians rallied for two goals in the final four minutes to get to overtime. Tonight Catawba had only 1:48 to pull back two goals.
Rollins, who never trailed until Sieracki's goal, grabbed an 8-6 lead on a goal from Carson Buell with 1:48 left. Daniel Rew (Forest Hill, MD/Bel Air HS) won the ensuing face-off and Davis Hughes (Windermere, FL/W. Orange HS) took a pass from John Scheich (Waxhaw, NC/Weddington HS) to answer in just seven seconds. Just over a minute later, Hughes put home the tying goal with 38 ticks on the clock.
Rollins failed to score in the final seconds of regulation and missed a shot in the first overtime. Catawba was able to clear and after Scheich shot wide he found Sieracki for the winner.
The Indians rallied three times from two-goal deficits before the winner from Sieracki. Hughes led Catawba with four goals and Sieracki had two goals and an assist. Scheich scored one goal, but assisted on three.
Nicholas Schultz scored three goals for Rollins. Buell had two.
Rollins held a 41-35 edge in shots and had nine less turnovers than the Indians. Pete Wesselman (Charlotte, NC/Providence HS/Stevenson) had a big night in the pipes for Catawba, making 17 saves. Thomas Trioano stopped seven shots for the Tars.
