Dantzler's Five Goals Paces Men's Lacrosse Past Tusculum
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba got a career-high five goals from Alex Danzter (Holly Springs, NC/Holly Springs HS) and topped visiting Tusculum 15-8 in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday night at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians improve to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the SAC, while the Pioneers fall to 4-5 and 0-4.
Tusculum grabbed the early lead as Jack Timerson scored three minutes into the contest. The Pioneers were up 2-1 after a tally from Alexander Kleinberg, but Catawba reeled off the next seven goals to lead 8-2 early in the third.
Dantzler tied the game for the Indians at the 6:41 mark of the first quarter and Tyler Ulrich (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata HS) put Catawba on top with 4:49 to go in the period. Dantzer capped the run by scoring three of the final four goals for the 8-2 edge.
The Indians were in control after going up 5-2 after a quarter. It was 7-2 at the break. Catawba held a 47-28 edge in shots and won 18-of-26 face-offs.
Davis Hughes (Windermere, FL/W. Orange HS) followed Dantzler with two goals and three assists. Ulrich and Adam Hebert (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic HS) each scored a pair of goals.
Mitch Chapman led Tusculum with three goals. Ben Boyd scored twice.
Catawba will return to action on Monday at Shuford Stadium to take on Queens at 4 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but has been moved up due to the impending weather forecast.
