Football Tunes Up for Spring Game With Final Full Scrimmage
Saturday, Catawba held its final full scrimmage before next weekend's Spring Game. Head Coach Curtis Walker helped break down some of the key plays.
The controlled scrimmage began with goal line situations on the five-yard-line. The No. 1 defense held the No. 1 offense to a field goal on its first possession. The No. 2 defense was able to intercept a pass on first down against the No. 1 offense. The No. 1 offense was able to come back and get a score on a quarterback sneak from Mike Sheehan.
The units moved to red zone situations with the ball starting on the 15-yard-line. Jamal Lackey came up big on the first play as he raced 85 yards on an interception return. The No. 1 offense returned and scored on a 13-yard pass from Sheehan to Shawn Galloway. Jonathan Jean ended the next series with a blocked field goal.
Other highlights from the scrimmage:
Trey Mashore scored on a 58-yard run
Jalen Forrest had an interception
Sheehan completed 57% of his passes and had 52 yards rushing
Cary Littlejohn had several nice runs
Diante Hodges had three receptions and added a 12-yard run
Montravius Evans was the top tackler on defense
Comments from Coach Walker
"Our team has shown a great competitive edge throughout our spring practices. I was extremely please today to see individuals step up and make some big plays. There are four days left in the 2014 spring practice season and we are looking forward to continued growth in our team."
Catawba will conclude its spring practice with the Spring Game on Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m.
