No. 12: Joe Watson and Paul Kronenfeld selected in the Major League Baseball Draft
Junior Joe Watson and senior Paul Kronenfeld added to Catawba’s list of baseball players drafted into Major League Baseball in June. Watson went in the 12th round to the Texas Rangers and Kronenfeld to the Cincinnati Reds in the 25th round.
Since 2004, Catawba has had 12 players taken in the MLB draft. Only three players were taken higher than Watson in a draft. Brian Boltz was a second round pick in 1989 with Mike Dickens going in the fourth round in 1970 and Kevin Hemphill in the seventh round in 1978.
Watson made it two years in a row that an Indian was selected by the Ranger organization. Chris Dula was a 25th round pick by Texas in 2013. Kronenfeld is the second player drafted by Cincinnati, joining Dickens who was Catawba’s first-ever draft pick.
