Indians Claim 3-0 Win Over Undefeated Mount Olive

SALISBURY, NC – The Catawba College men’s soccer team claimed a 3-0 win over the University of Mount Olive Wednesday night at Frock Field.  With the win, Catawba improves to 2-3 on the year.  Mount Olive suffers its first loss of the year and now stands at 2-1-2.

The teams entered halftime scoreless but Catawba Junior, Kenny Bonilla, broke the tie in the 59th minute.  The goal, which later proved to be the game winner, was sent across the front of the net by Brian Woulfe and beating three Mount Olive defenders.  The goal was Bonilla’s second on the season and both goals have come off a Woulfe pass.

Catawba would look to increase their lead with a second goal in the 70th minute by Woulfe.  The goal marked his first of the season and was assisted by Declan Stimson.  Woulfe’s goal was launched from outside the penalty box that stunned the Trojan’s keeper.

Stimson would assist on the final goal of the night which came with 23 seconds left on the clock.  Stimson’s pass created a one-on-one opportunity for freshman Michael Basnett, who flicked the ball over the diving keeper.

Catawba keeper, Christian Watts, recorded the win for the Indians and was not required to tally any saves.  Mount Olive started Nick Bersdorf in net and recorded a save despite giving up two goals.  Bernsdorf was replaced in the 70th minute after the Woulfe goal by Adam Lawrence.  Lawrence also recorded a save in the closing minutes of the match.

The Catawba men will go on the road for the first time this year on Saturday to take on South Atlantic foe, Carson Newman.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
