Women's Golf Grabs Fourth-Place Finish at TC Fall Classic
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Catawba women's golf team placed fourth at the Tusculum Women's Fall Classic which finished up on Tuesday at the 5,805-yard, par-72 Link Hills Country Club. The Catawba Indians 308 total in round two shaved eight strokes off their opening round total, but left the ladies 27 shots off the pace. UNC Pembroke fired a tournament record 597 total in claiming the win.
Freshman Anthea Gnielinski (Bremen, GERMANY/SZ Bordestrasse HS) led the Lady Indians with a fifth-place finish. She followed her 73 with a 77 on Tuesday. Her 150 total was three shots off the winning score of 147. UNCP's Amanda Levy topped teammate Laura Bird in a playoff for medalist honors.
Madison Kennedy (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury HS) shook off an opening-round 85 to tie the lowest round of the tournament with a one-under-par 71 on Tuesday. She finished 18th. Alexis Kershaw (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ledford HS) wound up 11th after rounds of 77 and 78.
The Catawba women will tee it up next week at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate which is being hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne at the Sea Trail Golf Club on Oct. 7-8.
