Three Named to USA College Football Preseason All-America Teams

Catawba had three players on the list of the 26th Annual USA College Football D-II Preseason All-Americans presented by the American Football Networks.  Wide receiver Carlos Tarrats (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines HS) and defensive back Mark McDaniel (China Grove, N.C./S. Rowan HS) were second team honorees, while punter Caleb Berry (Lexington, S.C./Lexington HS) was an honorable mention pick.

Tarrats, a junior, led Catawba in catches with 39 last year.  He also led the team in receiving yards (661) and touchdowns (7).  A versatile player, Tarrats added 40 yards rushing and completed two passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.

McDaniel, a senior, led the Indians with five interceptions a year ago, returning one for a score against UNC Pembroke.  He made 43 total tackles with seven going for losses.  In addition to his five picks, McDaniel broke up nine passes and also caused a pair of fumbles.

Berry, a sophomore, averaged 38 yards over 47 punts in his freshman campaign.  He had a long punt of 63 yards and had 12 of his kicks (25%) downed inside the opponent 20-yard-line.

Catawba will open its season at home in Shuford Stadium against West Georgia on September 5 at 1:30 p.m.  West Georgia was a national semifinalist last season.
