Indians Open Season With 4-0 Loss to Francis Marion
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba College men’s soccer team opened the 2015 campaign with a 4-0 loss to Francis Marion University Thursday evening at Catawba’s Frock Field. The match marked the first of the year for both teams.
Francis Marion went into the half with a 3-0 lead over the Indians. Catawba responded with better in the second half allowing the only goal off a penalty kick. With 22:27 remaining on the clock, Catawba keeper Christian Watts attempted to stop a Francis Marion attack with an errant slide tackle. Harrison Smith converted the penalty opportunity for the Patriots.
Francis Marion outshot Catawba by a 13-6 margin. Watts and Francis Marion keeper each recorded two saves on the night. The match was physical on both sides with Catawba tallying 17 fouls and the Patriots 14. Five yellow cards were awarded on the night.
Catawba will travel on the road Sunday as they face Barton for a 7:00 p.m. match.
