Indians Score Early in 3-1 Victory Over Coker
HARTSVILLE, SC -- Early scoring proved too much for Coker College as the Catawba College Indians defeated the Cobras 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer action Saturday night at the Coker Soccer Field. Catawba now stands at 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference with the win while Coker falls to 1-5-1 and 1-3, respectively.
Ian Orr tallied the first goal of the night in the sixth minute after Jack Ragen’s kick to the box led to a frenzy in front of the net. The loose ball found the feet of Orr who put the Indians up 1-0.
In the tenth minute of play, senior’s Declan Stimson corralled a Kenny Bonilla pass for the second goal of the night and eventual game winner.
Coker showed life of their own with a goal in the 15th minute by Ian Fellenz. The marker remained until the halftime where the teams entered the break with Catawba leading 2-1.
In the second half, Brian Woulfe drilled a free kick over the defensive wall to beat the Coker keeper, Kyndle Cobb. The tally came in the 56th minute.
Catawba’s dominate defense allowed just three shots all night with only one shot landing on goal. The Indian’s offense, however, proved more of a threat recording 18 shots on the night with five being stopped by Cobb.
Catawba will travel to Concord University on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
