LMU Squeaks Out 3-2 Win Over Depleted Indians
HARROGATE, TN -- The Catawba College men's soccer team fell 3-2 to Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Complex. The Catawba Indians fell to 5-11 on the season and 3-8 in the conference. The Railsplitters improve to 10-3-1 overall and 7-3-1 in the SAC.
Danilo Da Silva gave the Railsplitters their first lead of the game with a goal in the 10th minute of play. Henrique Rezek booted a long ball to a charging Da Silva who beat Catawba keeper Ian Orr. The Catawba defender, Orr, found himself in net after the Indians two goalies were listed inactive for the game.
Jack Ragen tied up the match for Catawba in the 33rd minute after taking a pass from Connor Noonan about 25 yards from the net. Ragen spun around a Lincoln Memorial defender to rip a bending shot to the left of Pedro Ozi, the Railsplitter's goalie.
Da Silva would score again in the 40th minute to give Lincoln Memorial a 2-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Jack Pettett scored for Catawba to even the score at two. The goal came after rebounding his own shot to beat Ozi in the 54th minute.
In the 59th minute Rezek tallied the game winner for Lincoln Memorial after Orr punched away a saved shot when landed in front of Rezek. The Railsplitter's midfielder was able to send back the shot past Orr for the win.
Each team recorded 13 shots in the game. Orr saved four shots while Ozi stopped five.
With the loss the Catawba men did not qualify for post-season play.
