Haverty, SAC Freshman and Player of the Year, heads to Women's Golf Regional

Catawba freshman Paige Haverty (Greenville, NC) has been honored as the 2003 South Atlantic Conference Player and Freshman of the Year. She becomes the first Lady Indian to earn either honor. She will compete as an individual at the NCAA II Southeast Regional on May 5-6 in Lakeland, FL. Haverty failed to break 80 in only four of her 19 rounds this season and currently has a 78.42 stroke average, more than four shots lower than the current school record. In nine tournaments thus far, she has earned two individual wins and three runner-up finishes. Her 74 in the final round of the Bulldog Classic set a new school record. Also earning first team All-SAC honors was junior Kristen Kyle (Greer, SC). Kyle was a second team all-league pick last year and has posted an 82.11 stroke average this season, bettering her previous school mark by a nearly a stroke per round.
