Football Begins Title Defense With First Full Gear Practice

The Catawba football team went through its first full gear practice on Sunday and defensive back Chris Page was cited as a standout with numerous pass break ups. The squad has two more practices in the preseason camp before classes begin on Wednesday.
Junior wide out Keyon West had a pair of catches on post routes and also did a nice job with some physical outside blocking. The offensive line fared well with a good competition at center with CJ Cain and Kevin Norton. Reid Carlton, who missed last season, is providing a nice competition at quarterback as he has become more comfortable with the playbook.
On Friday’s first practice in helmets, DJ Jackson had a good day and capped the night with an interception. Trevor Bembry posted a sack and running back Quientel Goodwin hit a nice inside run. Saturday saw linebacker Joshua Moses record an interception. David Burgess scored a touchdown during inside running drills. Lee Brackman and Brennan Lambert provided some consistent kicks in both kickoff placement and on field goals.
