Men's Soccer Stuns #7 Tusculum With 3-0 Victory
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Catawba men’s soccer team earned a huge win on Sunday, knocking off seventh-ranked Tusculum 3-0 at Pioneer Field. Daniele Proch (Arco, Italy) scored two goals and assisted on the other as the Catawba Indians improve to 9-5 overall and 6-4 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Pioneers, who entered the week undefeated, fall to 12-2 and 7-2.
Proch put Catawba on top in the 18th minute, converting off a pass from Jack Ragen (Terrigal, Australia). Ragen played in a long through ball after a turnover to Proch, who scored after pulling the keeper out. In the second half, Proch picked up a loose ball in the box and blasted a 15-yard shot to the upper corner for a 2-0 edge in the 57th minute.
The scoring was completed when Belony Joseph (Charlotte, N.C./C. Cabarrus) ran onto a pass from Proch in front of the box and delivered his first goal of the year with 12 minutes remaining. Tusculum out-shot Catawba 20-8, but put only five on target. Christian Watts (Plymouth, England) stopped those shots to earn the shutout.
Catawba hosts Belmont Abbey for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday for Senior Night at 7:30 pm.
