Men's Soccer Falls To Belmont Abbey
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey posted a 3-1 win over host Catawba in men’s soccer action on Tuesday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The Crusaders improved to 5-8-2, while the Catawba Indians fall to 9-6.
Catawba got an early penalty kick when Ian Orr (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman) was brought down on the left side of the box. Orr converted the kick just 2:11 into the contest. Belmont Abbey was able to equalize just five minutes later as Clay Dimick scored off a corner kick by Geinner Duque.
The Crusaders converted their own penalty kick to start the second half. Dimick notched his second of the match just over two minutes in. Belmont Abbey got a final goal in the last two minutes as Steven Pate took a pass from Nick Fuller unmarked and converted from the top of the box.
Christian Watts (Plymouth, England) had five saves in goal for Catawba. Wes Holifield made three saves for Belmont Abbey.
Catawba hosts Lincoln Memorial on Friday at 5:30 pm in a match that will determine which team will host a first-round conference tournament match.
